As you can see in the pictures they match perfectly with the factory interior. The installation was straight forward and didn’t make for any unexpected surprises. We grabbed constant power at the kick panel and ran a wire to the factory cigarette lighter jack to get accessory power. Enjoy the pictures!

A while back we installed a set of 9″ DVD Headrest Monitors in a 2010 Cadillac Escalade. This job was for a high profile client that needed to view edits of a very popular TV show. The client requested to have a dual DVD system installed so that her assistant could also view her own source. This system we selected was a Vizualogic A-1290 Dual DVD 9″ headrest monitors system. These headrest DVD players were factory matched to the original interior and were a relatively easy installation.

Hardly car related, but I though I would share my thoughts on a system that has truly been affordable, not cutting edge but value oriented. I was the unfortunate recipient of a house fire settlement that afforded me the replacement of my home audio system. I took the opportunity to replace my beloved Boston Acoustics VR970′s with Dynaudio Audience 82 tower speakers. I was certainly partial to this system because it was one that I was able to purchase as a sales associate to the now defunct Good Guys Corp. (It doesn’t get any gooder) what a slogan.. no wonder their gone, nevertheless it was a steal.

I took the opportunity to finally crack open the boxes and see what I have been missing. Side note, I sold my old car that had what I deemed an epic car stereo system that consisted of four Zapco C2K Competition amplifiers with Esotec Dynaudio speakers. Audibly I was forever never the same, musical standards were expected.

I took advantage of some down time to setup the Audience 82′s and use some time away from home to let them break in. Despite those who are critical to true fidelity I chose a value added name in my components of Outlaw audio. I am a skeptic to high priced cables, but I am partial to quality components and cables but am not willing to sacrifice my kin nor my arm or leg.

Upon initial fire, my reactions were of some disappointment, midrange was blaring and fatiguing, tweeter’s were on point, bass muddy and poor. Break in schmakin….

11 Hours break in
Bass response has improved, a touch more punch with more definition, still not up to par. Tweeter’s as only Dyn can do them. Mid, lackluster.

16 hours break in
Mid is finally coming around, I’m sure Dynaudio chose the proper driver which appears to be a 5″ mid, similar in size to the center Audience 122c mid bass driver, which at this point I still think makes for a better mid than what they have chosen for the Audience 82.

18 hours break in, no change, mistake?
The more I listened to the Audience 82′s I felt a mistake in their design was made, the 3″ soft dome mid is what I wanted. The crossover gap between the mid and the bass driver sounded gaping. In frustration with muddy undefined bass I was looking for options.

18 hours break in… scratch head, wow I made some big mistakes… did I really buy crappy components, it can’t be the speakers?
Self doubt about my choices was beginning to set in. Outlaw Audio…. Internet only company, you get what you pay for, they don’t make any of there own products, shame on you. Dynaudio is a reputable name it can’t be their fault… can it?

18 hours break in, two feet away from the wall, ten feet in between, this can’t be.
Bliss.. really have we come that far with such a simple change? Components and cables be damned! I opted for no plugs in the ports on the Audience 82′s. I wanted to run this system in full bypass with no sub and no processing, zero modifications to the intended design. I was hell bent on confirming my purchase and looking for any way to justify it. Poor mid bass, epic tweeter, ever increasing taught bass, I was amiss. Lets move these babies, it has to work. Wow, what a difference.

19.5 hours break in, 1.2 hours solid listening
The lack of defined bass was bothering me, I was impressed with the extension, but left unimpressed with the the overall musical qualities. I opted to “place the towers” in what I deemed optimal position two feet from the back wall, ten feet in between, angled 20 degrees toward the listener. Sublime. Call me an expert, I take cash, call me 222-555-1212.

Mistake? Possibly a mistake in execution, component choices were solid.
Everything I read and wanted, I got. What’s left.. I’m happy. Looking forward to the magic 150-200 hour Dynaudio break in.

Enjoy.

We recently installed the Rosen AV7500 DVD Headrest Monitors for Mercedes Benz GL450 Actve Headrests. These units were easy to install and required no modification to the vehicle. It took us approximately 3 hours to put these in. Newer Mercedes vehicles all have Active Headrest which are part of the SRS system. Active headrests are designed to close the distance between your head and the headrest to prevent whiplash.

When we install headrest monitors and DVD headrests we can not remove the original headrests because it will disable the factory safety device. From Mercedes you can order a car with the DVD system but that option is $2400. We offer this system installed for $1699. With the Rosen system you get considerably more features and the system works better than the factory one.

Rosen features:
Built in game system
Wireless headphones
USB input
SD card input
Better more slim overall look
Easily removable for transfer to a new vehicle after lease period is over

AAMP of America has released their IS76 iPod video output cable that will charge your iPod and let you get composite video and audio outputs to connect to any monitor. Simply connect this cable to 12 volts and it will keep your iPod Touch or iPhone 4 charged all the while enjoying your media on a large screen. This cable is a great alternative for in-dash head units and overhead flip down monitors that have a video input but do not currently have a iPod cable. You will have to control your media from the iPod and iPhone but this will give you access to your media.

We installed a Safesight SC9003 reverse back up camera system in a 2002 Ford F-150. We experimented with monitor placement on the center of the dash and the left side of the dash. This system is our most popular system and is very versatile in how and where it can be mounted. We chose the rear bumper as a suitable place to mount the camera. As shown in the pictures we placed the monitor in two different positions.

We had a chance to do an overhead DVD player in installation in a Ford Flex. We installed a Pyle PLRD92 overhead car DVD player in the roof of this vehicle. This installation was a non standard installation because the headliner had a deep pocket in it to facilitate the overhead Air conditioning system. We had to install a platform to support the monitor without distorting the headliner. Take a look at the pictures which better demonstrate what was done.

Today we installed a Gryphon Mobile MV-RF121DVD Overhead DVD player in a 2011 Toyota Sienna with dual sunroofs. This installation was a little more tricky in that the vehicle had a very narrow sunroof bracket that we could mount to. We had to use plate steel to make a bracket that would be strong enough to attach the screen to. The interior of this Toyota Sienna was grey so we chose the grey unit to match. We were able to grab 12 volts from the factory fuse box located underneath the dash.
