The SC9003 Backup Camera System

April 22nd, 2012

The SC9003

There are times when a backup camera system is needed and relied upon for more than just backing out of a driveway.

Sometimes a backup camera system is going on a forklift, making it easier to see hard to reach places. Then there are times when a backup camera system is used on farm equipment, allowing a tractor to reverse with precision without neck-strain or an uncomfortable driving position hours at a time.

If your looking for versatility and durability in a backup camera system, Safesight’s SC9003 is a more than capable system, with a great build quality to withstand the weather and almost any working environment.

Safesight’s SC9003 comes with a surface mount high resolution ccd camera. The surface mount feature allows the camera to be mounted virtually anywhere through a built in pivoting bracket that is drilled down to the ideal position.

The SC9003′s ccd feature means that it provides a low noise, high quality image with plenty of pixels and great light sensitivity. Safesight’s SC9003 camera also comes with a formidable 120 degree wide angle view of the rear, connects to any monitor through a standard RCA connection and powers up through a standard power and ground connection.

Safesight’s SC9003 also comes with a 7 inch monitor that has two video inputs for multiple camera use.

The monitor includes a flush mount headrest shroud, pedestal stand and remote control. One of the great features of the SC9003′s monitor is that it has image flipping capabilities, which allow for a mirror image on a rear view instillation or standard image for a view of the front or sides.

The system is completed with a 60 ft RCA video cable which opens up its versatility even further and allow the camera system to be installed in even the largest of vehicles such as an RV, bus, large trucks, tractors and trailers.

Rosen navigation for Nissan Altima – Installed

April 20th, 2012

We recently did an installation of the new Rosen Factory navigation system in a 2012 Nissan Altima with back up camera. The installation was rather straightforward and relatively simple when following the Rosen instruction manual. The manual that was provided was excellent and the unit can be installed by any end consumer. The unit even included a factory connector to disable the Nissan Bluetooth module, the Rosen has built in Bluetooth.

What makes the Rosen navigation’s so great is that they look like the original Navigation system that came with the vehicle. The advantage to this is that all of the integration with Factory components is plug and play. The unit plugs directly into the factory Radio harness, and gives you steering wheel controls without programming! If you are installing a back up camera to a vehicle that does not have a factory back up camera, you will need to run all of the cabling. This maybe out of the scope of what an end consumer can do without some professional installation help. The best part about Rosen is that they match the new vehicle warranty of the vehicle; in this case a 3 year – 36,000 mile warranty.

This system is designed for vehicles with and without Bose stereo systems. We found that the audio quality from the speakers was improved slightly, but can be tailored to you years with the built in equalizer. Satellite radio can be added with an additional module for additional entertainment on long drives. The unit has the ability to control an iPod but a cable is required that is not included, this customer opted not to purchase the cable so we can’t review the functionality. If the iPod control is similar to other Rosen GPS navigation I’m sure it easy to use.

The SC4101-SC0301 Complete Back up Camera System

April 18th, 2012

The SC4101-SC0301

For people in search of a complete entry level back up camera system, who don’t want to spend a ton on an aftermarket in dash monitor, Safesight’s SC4101-SC0301 rear view mirror back up camera kit is a great choice.

The SC4101 is a rear view mirror monitor that allows for a back up camera image to be displayed and can conveniently clip on to almost any rear view mirror through four adjustable clips, two on the top and bottom.

A rear view mirror monitor is also a great alternative to those people that feel a monitor on top of the dash might feel to intrusive and distracting on the road even when not in use.

One of the most useful features about the SC4101 is that not only can it display a backup camera image through its designated 4.3 inch monitor, but it also doubles as a standard rear view mirror. Many entry level rear view mirror monitors do not double as a standard mirror due to their low reflective capabilities.

The SC4101 comes with a basic power and ground connection as well as two standard RCA video inputs. The two RCA video inputs allow for any additional video source to be connected to the monitor apart from the rear view camera, including a DVD player, game console or additional camera at the front.

The SC0301 is a license plate type rear view camera. Although entry level, the camera does come equipped with infared capabilities, which provide a black and white picture during night time use. The SC0301 is also very easy to install right on top your license plate and can connect to any monitor through a standard RCA input.

Probably the most attractive thing about Safesight’s SC4101-SC0301 however, is knowing that you can get a complete back up camera system that can easily be added and installed to almost any vehicle for under $150.

The VTL422HD Car Backup Camera

April 16th, 2012

The VTL422HD

One of the best additions you can add to your vehicle today is a backup camera system.

It not only looks great in any vehicle, but a backup camera system is a practical way to assist you while parallel parking and a potential life saving device, preventing accidents while backing out of a driveway or any other potentially vulnerable space.

A backup camera system is also great for towing and provides a good view of the tow hitch, making it easier to prepare for camping and fishing trips as well as family vacations of all sorts.

One of my favorite backup cameras on the market is Boyo’s VTL422HD license plate camera. It is a CCD high resolution camera, easily mounts to your license plate and has an outstanding 175 degree viewing angle, for a panoramic view of your rear.

The 422HD has one of the best picture qualities in any backup camera out right now and although it does not come equipped with any infared capabilities it has excellent light sensitivity and auto white balance for night time use.

With the 422HD you have the option of having grid lines show up on your monitor for extra parking assistance with a press of a button and easily connects to any monitor through a basic standard RCA cable.

The 422HD is also an elegantly designed metal type license plate camera compared to most plastic, clunky looking entry level cameras.

With its anti scratch coating and weatherproof capabilities, Boyo’s 422HD is also a solidly built camera made to last by one of the leaders in backup camera technology.

TV in your car With the DTV200

April 13th, 2012

DTV200

Practically every driver on the road at one point or another, has thought about how great it would be to watch television in your vehicle while your on the go.

How great it would be to not miss a beat of that local football game or morning talk show. For the kids to watch their favorite Saturday morning cartoons or to keep up with the local news on your way from work.

With the DTV200 dual digital TV tuner, television on the move can be more than just a though but a great addition to your vehicle’s current entertainment system.

One of the best features of the DTV200 is that it is a dual digital TV tuner. Which means, apart from being able to receive digital broadcast television signals while stationary, great for tailgating or camping trips, it is also one of the few tuners that is able to receive a signal while moving.

The DTV200 is also incredibly easy to connect to any monitor with a standard RCA input. It comes with a detachable antenna with a strong magnetic base to attach to the outside of the vehicle for best signal strength and is powered up through a basic 12 volt power and ground connection.

Possibly the only drawback with the DTV200 has nothing to do with the tuner itself but rather channel availability while moving. The reason is that digital signals while stationary dubbed ATSC is broadcast differently than digital signals that can be received while on the move dubbed ATSC M/H or MDTV.

For example, New York currently broadcasts six channels in ATSC M/H, Los Angeles has five channels, while Chicago, Houston and Miami have four channels respectively.

However, there is a dedicated group called the Open Mobile Video Coalition(OMVC) who are committed to bringing television to your car while moving. In 2009 the OMVC succeeded in having the U.S. government approve their universal standard for MDTV.

With this universal signal standard, OMVC hopes that in time more channels continue to be added to the ATSC M/H list and as the technology continues to evolve, that it will eventually show up in smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.

Car Headphones for Kids in Blue, Pink, Red and Purple

April 11th, 2012

Hp34C

As we draw ever closer to the summer months ahead, that usually means a couple things, including barbecues, long holiday weekends and of coarse holiday trips.

For many families on the road, this often means keeping the kids as entertained as possible for the duration of the trip is on the top of the to do list and a good pair of universal infared wireless headphones can quickly become a parents best friend.

As for the kids, for the most part the wireless headphones are merely a means to an end. There is nothing particularly special about most pair of infared wireless headphones.

They almost exclusively come in all black and the few features there are to distinguish between them are whether to get single channel headphones for use with one monitor, dual channel headphones for use with two monitors at time or whether they are able to lay flat at a base or not.

Now Boss Audio has changed that with the introduction of the Hp34C.

The Hp34C are a good pair of infared wireless headphones that come with colorful interchangeable caps, making them easily customizable and children can quickly show off their favorite color that distinguishes their headphones from their brothers, sisters, or friends.

Boss Audios’ new headphones are also able to lay flat at a base making them easier to store behind the seat or any other flat surface and the Hp34C are dual channel infared headphones which means they are able to work when watching only one monitor or when watching two separate movies or TV shows at a time.

The Hp34C comes with red, purple, pink, blue and black color caps so there is sure to be something for both boys and girls, making the Hp34C quite possibly the first pair of infared wireless headphones that can quickly become a child’s best friend on that long trip as well.

Finding Great Looking DVD Headrest Monitors

April 6th, 2012

For anyone that has ever been on the market for a good pair of headrest monitors, one of the biggest questions you must answer as a consumer is deciding whether to go the universal or vehicle specific route.

On the one hand, if you ultimately decide on going with vehicle specific headrest monitors you know you are getting a high quality product that will match seamlessly with your vehicle. Your only obstacle at this point would be handing over the premium price that you would be paying for such a product, which can start well over $1,000.

For the more price conscious buyer or for anyone that may be leasing their vehicle and looking for a more economical solution, finding a pair of good looking headrest monitors means going the universal route and becomes a much more difficult task.

If you are in search of a universal headrest monitor but are unwilling to completely sacrifice function and design in the process, one of the best options in the universal headrest monitor market has been the Concept CLD-700.

The CLD-700 is one of the sleekest, well designed universal headrest monitors. On top of that, it is also  a media powerhouse fully equipped with built in dvd, dual channel infared for wireless headphone use, built in speakers, fm modulator, 2 video/audio inputs, and can play a vast amount of media formats including dvd, vcd, mp3, mp4, cd-r, cd-rw and divx.

Now Power Acoustik has recently released what looks a lot like a smaller, slimmer equally well designed version of the CLD-700 labeled the HDVD-71CC.

Much like the 700 the 71CC comes equipped with very similar specs as its Concept competitor. Like the 700 the 71CC also comes with interchangeable skins, providing a black, beige and gray color range which can be easily alternated. The 71CC also comes equipped with built in dvd, dual channel infared, fm transmitter and can play dvd, mp4, and divx formats. Unlike the 700 however, the 71CC does not come outfitted with built in speakers.

Both monitors come with a good quality 7 inch lcd monitor with a 480 by 234, 16:9 widescreen resolution and 400 NIT brightness. Both are fully capable, well designed monitors that start around $159 and are a great option for anybody in search of a universal headrest monitor. If you have a larger vehicle than the CLD-700 would be a great option, however if you own a coupe or a smaller sedan than the HDVD-71CC should warrant more serious consideration for a great look.

Vizualogiv A-1290 9″ DVD Headrests installed in a 2010 Cadillac Escalade

October 12th, 2011

A while back we installed a set of 9″ DVD Headrest Monitors in a 2010 Cadillac Escalade. This job was for a high profile client that needed to view edits of a very popular TV show. The client requested to have a dual DVD system installed so that her assistant could also view her own source. This system we selected was a Vizualogic A-1290 Dual DVD 9″ headrest monitors system. These headrest DVD players were factory matched to the original interior and were a relatively easy installation.
